Workbench Wednesday No.01.
I thought an article on my none railway modelling projects may be of some interest to people. Like my model railway blog I also hope that this one will become a regular feature on my website.
To kick things off here and some of my recent projects. And an idea of what to expect from these posts.
Starting with probably the smallest things I’ve ever printed and painted. A few weeks back I found the wonderful miniature tanks and vehicles by user m_bergman on Thingiverse. I’d always loved Micro-Machines as a kid and this got me thinking about making my own. So I downloaded several different vehicles and resized them so they were a tiny bit smaller . My eventually plan is to make some tiny dioramas with these.
Keeping with the military theme for this next model. And again another Thingiverse find. This is a “PZM -7 Smialy” by Vidovic art. This is essentially a walking tank. This was one of the first prints I did on my Elegoo Mars 3D printer. I hope to do another at some point as I have 3 variants I can print.
Ever since I was a small child I’ve absolutely loved Daleks. I got my first, the somewhat inaccurate Dapol movie Dalek when I was about 5 and have collected them in various scales ever since. Having a 3D printer has allowed me to fulfill the life long dream of finally being able to build my own.
The tall red Dalek is the fantastic 5 inch “Imperial Dalek Kit” by user Audrey2. It was printed in ABS by a user on Treatstock. I would like to reprint it on my Elegoo Mars as some point as I think the quality of the print will be better. I decided to paint the model in the proposed red/black livery the Imperials were going to wear during “Remembrance Of The Daleks”. I’ve never been a fan of the clean finish on the Dalek props so I gave this one I bashed up work worn finish.
You may have also noticed the tiny Dalek to the right of the Imperial. This is one of 4 tiny Daleks I printed recently, again another find on thingiverse. These models represent the Daleks from the 1964 episode “The Daleks Invasion of Earth”. The kit is by user Stryker123 . Several more Dalek variants can be found on his page. I also took the opportunity to print a little Tardis to go with them
And finally onto some tabletop game figures. And firstly the “Purple Dragon Knights” by Dutchmogul. These were printed on my old, and not very reliable “Anycubic Photon”. These were actually the first “minis” I’d ever printed and painted. I found this project to be a great escape from “the real world” and have since printed and painted several more “minis”. Hopefully I’ll have something similar to this to show in the next post.
And lastly FutureSoldiers Space Knights by VidovicArts. This is my latest miniature figure project. I really loved making these models and will definitely be building some more of these in the future. I liked the idea of the model being supplied in kit form so you can build your own figures.
I hope people have enjoyed this post. Please let me know if you have any comments and suggestions for future posts or models I could build.
Thanks for looking!
