A few days ago I found myself browsing the Sketchup online warehouse, a place that does have some interesting and free to download models if you know where to look. On my travels I found the following model which is clearly based on the Guinness Brewery Locomotives built by William Spence & Co.
After a quick play about in Sketchup I was left with the above 3D model. The main modification I made to he file was to hollow it out a bit more so that a chassis could be inserted inside. I decided to use the Tomytec HM-01 chassis for this.
After a few hours of printing on my Elegoo Mars 3D printer I was left with the above model. The chassis fits really well inside the model and the wheels line up with the motion, which I’ve left as static.
The next step was to cure the model under a UV light and then it was given a coat of primer.
After painting the model in a livery similar to the prototype I decided to tackle the cab, if you can call it that! I wanted to make it look as close as possible to the actual loco as possible, even though this area will be partially obscured by the driver.
I found photographing the finished model slightly hard due to its small size, so the above images aren’t the best quality. However I’m really happy with how this project has turned out. My thanks go to FC-Waldi37 for publishing the orignal file.
